The ending consideration written after having published this post; having read a comment of a review of the last scene whereby the "winner" of the long walk, having just shot the Major, walks away into a drizzle display of glowing lights; some compare this to a metaphor of him walking away into death. And that he was shot although that was left up to the audience's imagination perhaps (the review was the last paragraph from the Wikipedia page and the quote is from some magazine like Variety). However, considering that this movie is considered to be a depiction of "class struggle' and "an oppressive state" the last scene shows that the former "loser" of society, who "wins" the long walk, walks away with a ton of cash and having "won" the celebrity prize and becoming a "man of esteem=money money money now he's rich has has worth, meaning and is untouchable"--he walks away after having broken the law, broken the rules of not displaying any controversial stance towards the oppression State--and he walks away because BECAUSE HE IS A RICH MAN and that, that is the final IRONY. The word "irony" does play a role in this film if you pay attention to the script. Many of the reviewers griped that the plot was "thin" and character development not realized. However, the heavy breathing of the gasping walkers could emit a few solemn, intense words and IRONY is one of those very important themes which plays the last critical role in the film. The sensation-deprived "critics" were waiting for a CGI rendition of a sexualized and gory bloodbath with CGI effects, and dismayed, could not analyze, nor grasp the nuances of what an actual script and word play entail throughout a film. Yes, the last scene is IRONY that word that popped up during the long walk which is one of the "key words" of the film. The Irony of this "social class struggle" film is that a RICH MAN CAN GET AWAY WITH MURDER and BREAK THE RULES. ESPECIALLY A "CELEBRITY" however, unlike in real life, this "celebrity" of The Long Walk was not a deviant scumbag lying fake promising redemption through his posturing antics of charitable californication fake humanitarinaism. He was a "real" man having gone through the near-death experience of the meaning of life when the State only demands power as the criteria, and the State will omit the laws of oppression for the wealthy they can GET AWAY WITH MURDER AS in "I can shoot anyone on 5th Avenue and the fans/voters will cheer me on"...etc...

I know the arduous trek through the wilderness of grasping opportunists for my every post---but THE MOST PROFOUND FILM OF THE YEAR AND FOR YEARS this film must be awarded it has no sleazy nasty tricks or gimmicks to sell a thin plot about the usual tropes
this is real art, performed, directed, shot and also the music adds to the intensity
This is like a genius novel put to film (but far surpassing the actual book by Stephen King--which I did read and this has much more intensity which is extremely rare for a book-to-film adaptation, usually this is reversed.
I NEVER CRY in movies--the last time was watching, as I usually cry only for this one other movie--West Side Story and the acting of Natalie Wood at the ending scene
never have I been unable to restrain tears this film is so deep and so wonderful in exploring the many layers of meaning in life's journey. Although it is a "male"-dominated film which means other fabrics of life's tapestry have been omitted--this is a universal theme nevertheless. True ART TRUE ART for once true art in a mainstream movie hope it wins top movie award at The Academy Awards---
I was shocked, just thinking about the female perspective, that I did almost cry and had tears in my eyes with the first scene of the mother embracing her son--the acting was from the beginning top notch or so emotive that I was engrossed and not trying to get past the usual introductory banter--the film shot up into intensity from the very beginning to the very last moment.
It did include the female perspective but the roles of women were the usual. It is nevertheless a "universal" movie about "life" regardless of all criteria-based labels.

It had no special effects, no grandiose production, scenery but the reality of the immersion into this world that transcends all that separates people is what makes this also universal. And specially artistic not generic but gloriously magnificent in it's approachability to all who wander into the journey which is a metaphor, of course, the path of "every man" (a Medieval morality play from times past).

Not only was I riveted from the very beginning of the film, entirely throughout which is like a miracle considering I get very bored with most films. I am a long walk lone ranger on a trek through a journey that is akin to the passages your rendition of the book--made so much more in depth, profound and realistic in metaphor of the paths and the enemies and the changes in yin and yang you present. I am still on that walk, an arduous deadly path and I know the every agony you depicted in the film albeit through metaphor, my journey lasting far longer than a mere 350 miles of endless travail with no rest for the innocent. Thank you for reaching a profound depth of "the human experience" which will resonate with most people on the many levels this film reaches. I hope you win a top award but do not be one of the military junta assassins trying to obtain that victory though the Big Bro Hoe system I am on the long walk currently as the lone survivor with guns pointing at me constantly that if I stop they will surely rain a hail upon me.

What I realize about the conjunction of the two movies that have actually made me cry without being able to restrain the tears, never bored which is rare--throughout a film--that being West Side Story (the original) and this film, is that in the struggle of society and the outsider, the power-struggles and the hate and the complexities of the hegemonic principle which dominates and is the relevant theme throughout both of the films; in this they share that same identification of the extreme opposites of hate, love and the rarity of finding a true "soul mate". In the 60's movie it was of racial differences between a man and a woman, and in The Long Walk it is solidarity with a fellow human being sans the erotic and sexualized nature of the coitus cohabitation involved in a romantic and coupling of a progenitor union. The brotherly love, literally referenced in the film transcends racial differences and like soldiers in a mutual war of "class struggle", as some attest this film is truly about, the "dystopian" theme is referenced. However, it is in finding a person you can get to the bone of survival and endurance outpacing the other foibles of the "human condition" until the core of meaning is shared in a realization that the final destination is the bond and not the trivialities that most pursue in their journey through life.

There are many layers to the film, thusly I end only in that I do not intend to make this a social class theme however it is inescapable in this context. Due to the extreme difficulty I now face in merely typing, as I have not typed in my blog for many days and the endless struggle to fight to type and backspace as hackers are blocking my writing--the very essence of the oppression that this film relates to---however as I wrote above, it deals as usual with the typical male heroic struggle of fighting the top male dog figure (and yes, male dogs also play a role in the film, toppling top dog is what appears as another ironic plot device and twist at the end but a barking dangerous dog also plays a little cameo in the film, which I only relate as a "top dog" sort of metaphor in my personal analysis---)

however, the writer stephen king is only one white male teleporting hate RAPIST in a long line of opportunistic men who have risen from being working class albeit intellectual professor or teacher of english and creative writing in a college or high school as King has been--but he jumped at the chance to rape and assault me and did so laughing like the hyena typical hate bigot striving for kingly status
and thusly, I have only mentioned the director and that is all I can say (hope to hell he doesn't attack me but the likelihood of that is very high, as these types of people can only relate to white men struggling to bring down the top dog but they will only obey and follow the same dog whistles the top dog oppressed the oppressed with glee over--
